Got up again around 6AM, had breakfast and fixed my lunch.

We didn't go back to the same house we were at yesterday. I was disappointed a bit, I wanted to put the roof up!

Our project house is on Independence and just needs some finish work. Myself and another volunteer, Bill, were assigned the task to hang the interior doors. The first one we picked was the first bedroom, while two other volunteers put in the bathroom door. The doors aren't framed perfectly, so it takes some work to get the door in, but we managed to get our door done before lunch time, which was a bit of an accomplishment considering Bill had never done this before and it had been a while since I had installed a pre-hung door. And I had never installed a split jam door. The split jam door is designed to it can fit into an opening with varying thickness of wall and you don't need to make jam extensions.

After lunch, Bill and I hung the linen closet door and then installed the jams for the closets, which will all have bypass doors.

The other crew still hadn't finished installing that one door to the bathroom. They were having so many problems with it getting it plumb and it wasn't swinging properly.

The three remaining doors we had to use were all standard doors (not split jamb doors) so we would have to make sure the wall thickness was the right thickness for the jamb. The split jamb is very forgiving.

We moved to our second bedroom door. What a mess. The framing for the door was so far off that we could not even fit the door into the jamb. It was so out of plumb, it was amazing no one noticed it. We tried using a sledge hammer to  persuade the framing to go wider, but no luck. Our only option was to remove the jack stud (the short stud the same height as the door opening and replace it with a 1x4. This took the better part of a day to accomplish. But then we realized that the opening would be too narrow, so I filled in a little more with some 1/2 inch plywood. We were able to hang the door - but there was no way we were putting the outside trim on - the wall was too thick. I might have to pull that door out and cut back the plywood, shave the drywall down a bit and install the trim.

We wrapped up again around 3:30 for the day. After heading back to camp and cleaning up, I did some laundry. I wanted to wash everything I had already worn - I always over pack - and I did this time, but I wanted to keep things clean. Larry, a volunteer from Canada, and his daughter were doing laundry also, and he let me use some of his soap. I dozed off in the laundry room listing to Stevie Ray Vaughn on the iPod waiting for my jeans to dry.

I was hungry but I didn't want what was in the cafeteria. I had no idea what they were serving, but what I really wanted was some real Cajun food! I asked a local resident, and he sent me to this place called Tony's restaurant, which isn't too far away. Once I got there, the girl at the order counter told me they had no Jambalaya, no gumbo, none of those things I was looking for! They usually have it, but they didn't have any this day.

So back to the French Quarter. I went to this place called The Corner Oyster Bar & Grill. I ordered the New Orleans sampler. I had some chicken gumbo - which was good, some red beans and sausage - which was good, some jambalaya - which was real good, and some shrimp creole - which was real hot and real good, followed by a piece of bourbon pecan pie - which was really, really good. I would have tried some crawfish or even an oyster, but I didn't want a pound of them - in case I thought they were disgusting.

After dinner, I strolled into a few souvenir shops and picked up a couple things. I also bought myself a New Orleans Fire Department shirt from the fire station on Decatur.

I headed back to camp, and on the way there, I noticed a silver pick up truck weaving all over the road. I called 911 and gave the dispatcher my location so she could send some officers out. All I could do is look at the GPS and tell here what road I was on and what the intersections were. The cops finally caught up to us as he was pulling into his driveway (I followed him all the way home!). I gave the Deputy Sheriff my description of what I saw and left. By the time I got to camp, I was beat, and it didn't take long before I crashed and fell asleep.
