This morning, up again at 6AM, out the door by 7AM and to the project house.
I started in immediately getting the back porch steps done. I really wanted to get it finished, and to finish it mostly on my own. I got all the steps in when Richard (the site supervisor) noticed he screwed up and put the one corner post in the wrong spot. So I removed it, cut a new post and got it installed so I could start on the railings.
I took most of the day, but I finished the entire back porch, and aside from a few places, and the cutting of the spindles, I did it all on my own. I'm pretty damn proud of this porch!
At lunch, I bought lunch for Richard and Sam (the two Americorps Habitat staff members) at a local pizza place that also serves sandwiches. I had a Philly steak and cheese that was real good and we got a chance to learn something about each other in the process.
After lunch, Julie (one of the volunteers) and her sister Lilly confirmed that this cat that had been hanging around the site was pregnant. I'm not much of a cat person (highly allergic) but this was one really nice looking cat. Earlier in the day, it had stolen Julie's lunch. Before we left, I took out the sandwich I had made for myself that morning and gave it to the cat. Not sure what will happen to her.
After I left the job site, I went straight back to the French Quarter again to find something for Bonnie. I was given some suggestions of some different places to go, namely Royal Avenue. I found exactly what I was looking for (even though I didn't know just what it was that I was looking for) at a place called Forever New Orleans. I'm sure she will like it.
I was toying with the idea of getting a tattoo before leaving. Something simple, like a Fleur de lis with maybe "NOLA 05/08" or something. It would have been around $100, so I decided to skip it. Maybe next time I come down here.
After watching some of the NBA playoffs (GO CAVS!), I strolled down to the Gold Star Diner with a group of people from Atlanta, GA. I tried some fried catfish (good) and some craw fish pasta (not bad, but not my favorite).
Time to sleep. One more day to go.
